Week Two Features: Macro

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 15, 2012, 9:58 PM

Thanks for All The Support

To anyone who has faved anything of mine in the last few days, I am very sorry I haven't been able to properly thank you yet, but trust me... I will! Luckily, some of my photos have gotten a great deal of attention recently and it has become hard to keep up with everything, but it's not completely out of hand yet, so no worries. Anyway, to those I haven't thanked yet, thank you!

Week One Features: Waterscapes

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 8, 2012, 9:04 PM

Hotter Than Hell

Anyone over here on the east coast of the United States, I feel your pain. This heat is driving me a little crazy. Most days are spent inside dreaming of what it must me like on the outside. Air conditioning is my greatest friend, humidity my greatest foe. Luckily it appears that this week should be mildly cooler, but if the humidity doesn't stop... ugh.

:faint:

Weekly Features

So I'm going to try and be a better dA community supporter and do themed weekly features of deviations of have favorited recently. This week will be waterscapes, mostly because I love them the most.

Test of 600PX Grid Skin

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 6, 2012, 6:37 PM

The Introduction

This is a test of a custom 600px wide CSS grid system created using the custom CSS creator at www.960.gs. The container is 600px wide with a 10px gutter on each side. Inside there are 8 columns, each with a width of 55px and each with a padding of 10px. Columns can be combined, for instance you could have 8 separate boxes of 1 column, 4 boxes of 2, or even 2 boxes with one of 3 and one of 5.

Here are some examples:

This is a two column box over here.

Then this is even fancier and is a four column box. How fun is that, I mean really?
Then this is even fancier and is a four column box. How fun is that, I mean really?

This box is made of three columns...
While this one over here is made of five! Blowing your mind I know, but it's cool.

This obviously makes for a very flexible platform. The 960 Grid System that this is based upon is all I use when creating websites because of its simplicity and flexibility. There is no reason why the same platform shouldn't work on dA journals as well.

Custom Classes

I even added in a special div class called "stamp" that is basically a modified 2 column box for dAstamps, demonstrated below.

Did a similar thing for thumbs, just added a nice little border because I think it looks better. The border size and color can be completely customized.

Moved something like 80 + photographs over into storage because I feel they are no longer valuable to gallery or reflect poor artistic vision. Left them in storage because it is neat to see how my tastes and style has changed as my skill has progressed. It is truly my goal to take shots purely for artistic purpose; it just so happens that a majority of the shots I wind up with are from day trips and vacations making them more snapshots than true art pieces. Not that they cannot be both, however these two paths rarely seem to converge.

I want to stick around again for a little, but I always say that. Only time will tell, but I'm here for now, if not just for another outlet and escape from the world's overwhelming frustrations. Facebook has become a bitter cage from which I need to escape. Luckily, I have recently rediscovered my love for the outdoors. I am finally realizing my childhood dreams of picking up and camping/hiking whenever the forest winds bellow. Truly is liberating, may post some photos from my trips up into the AT (Appalachian Trail).

Anyway, anyone who has read this much, thank you for noticing. Remember, keep calm and carry on.
Going back to the Curchville Nature Center in a few moments, back into the water. Last time I sat on land way to long while wishing I was in there taking some better photographs, so today I am going with the intention of jumping right in and getting setup right away. Here's hoping that the sunset today will be just as beautiful as it was the other day.

Anyway, thanks for all the support from everyone who has been commenting and faving the new photos. Trying to churn out photos everyday. It has gotten to a point where I have been taking photos for far too long without really focusing on the artistic side of the shot and I'm just trying to push through the mental barrier I have. Sometimes you just have to work your ass of to get good. Sorry if the photos are a little repetitive though, but I bloody love sunsets. I'm trying to mix it up with a few different locations, but it's difficult to find them without driving long distances and sometimes difficult to find the right spot.

Thanks again,

Adam

One weekend. Saturday night Halloween party at my cousin's in Danbury, Connecticut. Sunday drive to Doogies, best hot dog place ever, then to Boston, then to Salem for their Halloween extravaganza to wear my homemade colonial costume once again. Monday just hanging out in Boston... still cool. Tuesday, drive home from Boston. Stop to see the oldest timber built house in America. Stop in Newport to check out the Newport Tower, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, The Breakers, the food, where Kennedy was married, and of course the bloody sunset. From there to Mystic Pizza. Then onto NYC for hot dogs at Gray's Papaya and Times Square. One weekned...
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. May it bring you and your family and friends the greatest joy one could imagine. Now go to sleep so Santa will come and fill your stockings with toys (and plutonium)! Love you all.

Thanks to All The Volunteers!

In my last two journals I asked for volunteers to be interviewed for a dA research projects. Thank fully, because this community is so caring, giving, and wonderful, I received a lot of response, so much in fact that I had too many! Nigel (photonig) and David (davincipoppalag) will be interviewed for the project. I sincerely thank all of those who volunteered to work in the project. I am grateful to have such wonderful friends and watchers on here.

Save The House Boat

As of this journal, there is over $950 in the Save the House Boat Chipin Account. Here's the deal guys and gals, I am putting out a challenge to everyone who reads this. Copy and paste the text below into your journals and keep posting and telling friends. While the intense generosity so far is inspiring, we are going to do better. We are going to hit $1500 before Christmas Eve. So tell everyone you know, every little bit counts. Even if it's just a few dollars, Nigel is one of the sweetest guys around, and he more than anyone I know deserves a spectacular Christmas gift this year!

Originally from a previous journal

We all fall on hard times in our lives, no one is immune, it almost inevitable. Unfortunately, fate has decided this time to pick on one of the greatest guys I know. Many of you have probably heard of photonig's troubles from his journal entry, but for those who haven't, please have a read. A few wonderful people on here have set up a Chipin Account called, "Save The Houseboat" for Nigel.

I believe it goes without saying that anyone who has had the pleasure to talk to Nig, read his journals, and view his art truly understands what a wonderful human being he is, and what a valuable member of this community he has become. He has not only been awarded daily deviations, but also senior member status as well because of his contributions. It is with great hope and promise that together the community can come together to help him out, especially at this time of year known for charity and caring.

Whatever happened to SPS, I'll never know. Probably my fault, but the past is the past, not need to dwell on it. Anyway, I put in a application to covert it to the groups platform. If you would like to make a comment for the staff to see, please go to the application page.

Lynnewood Hall Series

I posted two photographs recently (seen at the break) which depict a gilded age mansion right here in Elkins Park, PA, USA called Lynnewood Hall. This mansion has been abandoned and neglected for a long time. Though it does have an owner, he seems to have no plans for renovation, historic site, or anything of the sort. His views on the future of the site seem misguided at best, and many fear the worst.

I will probably be posting a large number of shots, some artistic, some into the scraps as just for fun shots. Anyway, I will also be posting a journal about the history of the mansion and it's current state. If anyone lives in the area, or knows anyone in the area, please ask them to message me. Along with a friend of mine (maybe) we are trying to gain momentum to save the mansion in one way or another.

Still Need One More Volunteer

Hey guys, davincipoppalag has volunteered to help out my girlfriend for her research project, which makes him even more awesome that before, but I still need more more volunteer! She is doing a research paper for a class in grad school and has chosen to do it on myself and deviantArt. Cool right, I know. Sorry I don't have too many details, but here's the deal: she needs to interview a few people from the site, probably over dA Chat or Skype, whatever is more convenient. Interviews would probably only last 15 minutes or so, depending on who in depth and intense it gets. If you would like to help out (which I would really appreciate, and I would love you forever!) please just comment on this journal.

Yeah so here I am. We (Elena & I) are back in Boston once again, this time both as visitors staying with a wonderful and delightful friend of Elena's. Here to go to Salem for Halloween, got our costumes all ready. We're are going (after much deliberation) as Robin Hood and Maid Marian. Exciting I know, but I'm changing out of it (hopefully) into my full on cowboy gear (including spurs) to go to the bar and watch the Philies beat the bloody Yankees.

So I hope everyone has a happy and fun Halloween! We're off to go see some old friends, meet some new ones, and walk around in tights (yes I am wearing tights... pictures to follow). Thankfully after all of this, I think life will cool down for a moment, that is until it's time to do Christmas shopping, but that's a lot of fun so it's okay. I love Halloween, but this one has been a little hectic. I'm starting on next years costume next week, true story.

Stay thirsty my friends. :ahoy:

Alright so I updated this journal a little bit, not much added, just features and some shameless self-promotion, along with some permanent links and what not at the bottom. I really don't think I'm going to do the whole sidebar thing again, been doing that for far to long and I'm just kind of tired of big clumsy journals. I like this, simple and elegant, easy to read and easy to update.

So anyway, someone joined dA the other day, and I have kept it a secret. Say hello to Elena over at andiQ87. She is into photography and is learning to quilt, so I'll have to get her to post some actual art on here at some point, but anyway she' here so that's all kind's of fun (and a little weird considering the ongoing saga in my journal). So yeah, go say hi if you want to, and I know you want to!

Photography Updates

So I was getting pretty into driving up to the Delaware River Valley around New Hope and such taking some autumn shots, but a nor'easter kind of rolled in and spoiled all the fun. Good news is that it appears to be rolling out today, so hopefully tomorrow or some time soon I can get back up there and take a few more shots. Bloody weather, always taking down a good time!

Alright, so this is just a rough beginning for a new, clean and simple layout for my journal. This will be my first actually working with the new "gruze" system and with the new CSS journal entry system. Previously, I just reworked the journal to work with it, but I decided to it was worth it to make the slight adjustments so it is easier to add new journals, which will definitely improve frequency as well. It's a work in progress, definitely adding more stuff as I got along, just wanted to get the basics up.

So anyway, I'm working with spreading the word about my photographs it order to sell some prints and services. On that thought, if you are one Facebook and haven't friended me yet, please go ahead and do it. Also, if you are on Facebook, please become a fan of Adam Hedrick Photography. It would mean a lot to me, and it keeps word spreading which is always a good thing. I also have a Twitter account for the photography business, and a website that is currently under construction. Let me know if you have anything on any of these sites as well, I'd love to look/watch everyone else. Here are the links:
My Facebook: Adam Hedrick
Facebook Page: Adam Hedrick Photography on Facebook
Website (under construction): Adam Hedrick Photography
Twitter: Adam Hedrick Photography on Twitter
Eventually I'll have these links permanently plastered on a sidebar or something, but it's really late and I've had a long and interesting day, so I really need to go to sleep, get some rest so I have some energy when I see Elena tomorrow.

Thanks for reading. :peace:

Good Things Come to Those Who Can Wait

Good Things Come to Those Who Can Wait

Hey there everyone, sorry about the extreme absence, I have been having the time of my life. After going through some crazy stuff with Elena on the weekend I went up to help her move home... she hasn't really moved home. Why? Because between then (08.16.2009) and now she has been staying here! All her stuff is at her house in West Philadelphia, but she has been staying here every night. So that's actually other three weeks! That's super fun, you have no idea. But that's really old news around here, however there is some new news...

So last night Elena and I got talking, and one thing lead to another and I wound up asking her to be my girlfriend, so yeah she said yes. Boo yah. I am much more excited that I sound, trust me, but she is in the next room waiting for me, so I think I'm going to go now. I should be around more often now with school started up and more time (in class) to look around the site and update. Hope everyone had a great summer!

Why Yes Sir, I Am From Massachusetts!

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 6, 2009, 5:48 PM

Why Yes Sir, I Am From Massachusetts!

So wow, how is everyone doing!? (You have to tell me if you read that, got you, too late!) I have been, well, great! All things in life seem to be working themselves out in favorable ways, with a few exceptions. (cellphone dying, but new iPhone coming!) All things being equal though, I think I am living in Massachusetts. Let's see, I have been there three times in the last month and am going back again in a week. Crazy part was, last time I was there was supposed to spend the standard three and a half days, but apparently we lost track of time because I wound up leaving Monday, six days after my arrival... woops. It was a hell of a time, I gotta tell you for a ton of reasons. Number one reason: I now have good pictures of her and (drum-roll) pictures of us together! Hooray! Other reasons include the apparent ability for us to basically live together (neat), all the cool places we saw (MFA in particular), and her delightful capacity to make a terrible day into one of the best I ever had. Dude, this chick is just too awesome. So in light of that fact, I am going back to Boston one last time next weekend to help her... MOVE HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes that right, girl of my dreams only a 25 minute car ride (20 minutes if I'm driving) away! Hehe. :D

So the rest of life is relatively good. Company is taking off as expected, our book will be done soon enough. Photography is going good, but I have to really finish that website. I have three prints hanging in a restaurant done in Maryland, hopefully after this weekend I will come back with photos of myself with my photos... yeah. Want to really get out and take a lot more photographs and seriously start selling, work some events, you know, just to get extra pocket cash... for some reason. Do a little freelance writing, blah blah blah, anything to avoid working customer service or retail until the company really takes off in January of next year.

Anyway, so as I mentioned, I am getting an iPhone! I am fairly excited (just ask Elena) about it, except the whole cost thing, but whatever, I'll deal. I haven't had a cellphone last more than a year for a long time, which is really bad considering that the plans are usually two years. I had the same problem with laptops a while back and switched to Apple, so I am remedying with the same logic here. I already downloaded nearly 45 apps, just waiting on the phone to get here. Interesting fact: I don't know if A) my old phone will last that long (it's dying) and B) my plan for it is up on the 15th, and the iPhone might not be here by then. Oh, did I mention that I don't have a land line? Oh yes.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend everyone!!!! :D

Sup

Hey there, how's everyone doing out there? I've got nothing new to report, things are still going swimmingly over here in my situation, leaving for Boston in 1 day 19 hours and 10 minutes, but who's counting? That is going to be really great, but you already knew that.

So I re-registered my old domain name which I lost to one of the advertising companies (bastards). So adamhedrick.com is back up. The only thing there is a constantly updating picture of what the layout will look like, so it doesn't work, it's just a picture, but I'm working on coding stuff out and what not. I just want to get the layout just right before I get to coding. It's a work in progress to say the least, but any feedback would be great and any ideas would also be greatly appreciated.

Hope everyone is having a fine weekend, enjoy it while you can! Stop reading this journal and go outside and run through a field naked. Do it!!!

Thanks for reading :peace:

Still In Like!

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 20, 2009, 11:47 PM

Still In Like!

One day later and I feel good. Last time we departed I only felt good for about a few hours then got pretty depressed, but this time I'm feeling quite alright. I think it's because I'll see her so soon, and that pretty much brings a smile to my face every time I remember. When I wake up tomorrow morning it'll be less than a week until I leave for Boston for the last time. The real trick will be the two weeks between when I leave on the and when she returns in all her glory to Philadelphia. That will be the longest we have been apart since we started this whole thing back in June. Ugh, what to do, what to do.

But I'm staying positive, just enjoying the moment and loving being around her and chatting with her. I am quite in awe of her, definitely enamored with her. I so try and play it cool from time to time, but I fail so hard it's unbelievable. I think it's quite apparent to her that I am totally in like with her, so I guess the gig is up. Damn. Hahaha.

Anyway, just updating for the hell of it while I am still in a crazy good mood. I feel like I only updated stuff randomly if something goes really right or really wrong, so here's something in between, a record of my continuous happiness. May it last until the 28th and grow more after that! Ha, sorry everyone, I am a little giddy at the moment for some reason... who could possibly guess?

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Quick update. I haven't been around a lot, some of you I have talked to a little and commented back, most I haven't though. Sorry about that, I have been a little preoccupied lately. So the wedding Elena and I went to this past weekend was nice, nothing crazy special, but it was nice. She came in on Friday evening, well actually I drove to New York to get her, long story, and we went to dinner, etc. Saturday was the wedding, nearly got there late. The ceremony was short and sweet, perfect. Reception was nice, first slow dance with Elena, or at least first I can remember, so that was terrific. Then down to her Mom's house to see her dog... and her Mom, ha, had dinner, back home. Sunday was a brunch which we showed up to about 3 hours late, but it was an all day affair, so it was cool. Then she left, and I was sad.

So Wednesday night she went to see Harry Potter, and as we were talking on the phone she said something along the lines of, "I wish I were a wizard so I could wave my magic wand and make your appear here." So in light of that fact, and the fact that I missed her, I decided yesterday to um... well drive to Boston. Left at 2:30, got here at about 7:45. She called me while I was parking and I just let it ring. Then I called her back and she didn't pick up... Dude... Minute later she called back, so relieved i picked up the phone. I asked what she what was up and what she was doing. Nothing. So I said, "It's such a beautiful day out, you should really go out and do something tonight." She said, "Yeah, but there is no one to go with." "Well what about going out with me." "Yeah, that would be nice." "Oh, okay, so let's go." "Haha, very funny, but you're too far away." "Well what if I was in Boston." "Well that would be weird, but absolutely amazing." "Okay, well, I'm standing outside your building." "Haha, very funny." "No seriously, listen the T is going bye." (The T is part of the public transportation system in Boston, it has a bell and she can here it from her window. Just as I said that, the bell rang.) "No way, are you serious... holy shit"

That is the basic jist of it, she didn't really believe me until she came down to the lobby of her building and saw me. But she was overjoyed and speechless. So yeah, I'm in Boston for a bit here, and then back on the 28th! As she says, I must be out of my mind. She may be right, but here's the deal. She's still got a thing for this other guy that I know is preventing us from ever going to the next level. I've just gotta make her realize that there might be something better out there, and maybe it's me.

Enjoy your weekends all, I know I will!

Everything Wonderful and Glorious

I am home for the moment, home from Boston. Left around 6:15PM yesterday, got in around 11:00PM or something like that. That was a long five hours. The four days spent in Boston were by far the best I have spent with anyone at any point in time. Every moment was romantic, every kiss unforgettable, every night complete bliss. I am finding it hard to understand why exactly I left. Elena is by far one of the most amazing and beautiful people I have have every met, inside and out, and her adopted city is almost as beautiful. Spending the week with her there was like living in a dreamworld, and it was heavenly. Believe it or not, I have no pictures whatsoever simply because we were both so wrapped up in each other that there was no time, or even afterthought about it. Just amazing.

So in about a half hour (holy shit I gotta get going) I am leaving here again with my mom and sister for Mountain Top to go to my cousin's bridal shower. I'm going to take pictures (and get paid... oh yes) and they are going to be, well chicks. After that, off to Lake George for a family vacation until Friday, but I will be updating and checking stuff out then, unlike in Boston. Should be fun, though after this past week, evening seems bland, you know?

So I am going to a wedding with Elena on the 11th of July, she is coming down a night early, well already was, but now she is going to come down and stay with me, because I'm only an hour from the wedding site. So this is fun. Then back up to Boston on the 27th for another four days of bliss. Woo! Okay I have 25 minutes at this point I need to pack some close and shower, so peace out until later.

Love you guys, thanks for all your support through this. Fruition is at hand. Text message received this morning: "God it's strange how much I miss you. Even thought you were only her 3 days, I can't wait to talk to you tomorrow!" God I think I'm in... alright we'll save that for later.
